Senedd election 2021: Cowbridge heads to the polls
Residents across Wales are heading to polling stations to vote in the Senedd elections.
For the first time, 16 and 17-year-olds were able to vote in the Senedd-Welsh Parliament poll and polling stations must operate under strict Covid-19 safety measures including social distancing and mask-wearing requirements.
At midday in the centre of Cowbridge, voters queued around the town hall, entering and exiting through a one-way system.
Anita Mallet told Nub News the queue almost made her not vote.
"When you're disabled and you're standing there for half an hour, it's not on," she said.
"There's three stations and only one booth when you go in, which is less than usual. It's just hard work, I nearly walked away."
Gavin Jenkins said he queued for about 20 minutes before casting his vote.
"It was fine. The queue went quite quickly," he said.
Over in Aberthin, residents came to the village hall to vote, including Chris and Liz George.
"There were two people in there spaced out, and there was nobody else voting apart from me," said Chris.
"But it's usually quieter up here than in town and turnout is usually lower in these elections than a general election."
Polls close at 10pm tonight but who joins a queue to vote before that time will still be able to cast their ballot after they close.
Counting will commence tomorrow morning, with results expected in the afternoon.
The police and crime commissioner votes will be counted on Sunday.
