Nurses from Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice will be undertaking a 25k sponsored walk from the centre of Cardiff to the hospice in Sully this Sunday (8 September).

The challenge is sponsored by Cabot Corporation and the 30-strong team, led by Deputy Lead Nurse Meg Fears, will set off at 8am from Roath Park to walk to the hospice in Sully, passing through Bute Park, Cardiff Bay and Penarth ending at Tŷ Hafan's hospice in Sully.

Their aim is to raise £10,000 to go towards a specially adapted vehicle to enable the children and young people who are supported by Tŷ Hafan to enjoy more opportunities in the community.

Meg says: "A fundamental part of our role is supporting children and young people to have the best quality of life and make precious memories. Our ambition is to raise money to get a new adapted vehicle to take children and young people out on trips and have access to different opportunities within the community."

"This is such a significant cause for us as a hospice team as we feel that the importance of making memories in what can be the hardest of times is absolutely essential," says Kat Morris, Registered Nurse and co-organiser of the challenge.

"Being able to put money towards the cost of a new fully adapted vehicle will give resident children the opportunity to be able to do these things, we have seen the impact that trips out can bring, be it a little walk on the beach or going to a farm – these small moments bring some fun to what these children are facing every day."

"We know the importance of creating memories and that they will be cherished by the children, young people and their families forever," adds Meg.

"Tŷ Hafan's ambition is to support as many children and families as possible. We are proud to be part of the nursing team at Tŷ Hafan and have the privilege to be part of these precious moments."

"Sadly, thousands of families in Wales live every day knowing their child's life will be short," says Claire Horrex, Community Fundraising Manager.

"At the moment, they often face this without any care or support. Alone. Afraid. Isolated. Tŷ Hafan's ambition is that when a child's life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own."
