Plans are underway for the Vale of Glamorgan Agricultural Show to return to Penllyn near Cowbridge on August 10.

This is the first show in two years since the COVID-19 pandemic and the Vale of Glamorgan Agricultural Society will also be celebrating its 250th anniversary.

Sarah Fenner, 46, general secretary and one of the committee members that organise the show, told Cowbridge Nub News: "Moving back to Penllyn this year which is huge news for us because who have grown up knowing the show to be there.

"For many of us, we remember the show in Penllyn as children and it makes us feel quite nostalgic and excited about it all."

The show usually attracts an estimated 20,000 people and Mrs Fenner is hoping returning attendees can share their photos and memories for a virtual gallery. "We would love people to share their memories and photos of the show over the years through a virtual gallery, which we hope to launch around the time of the show," she said.

Visitors can expect a packed schedule of events on the day, including trade stands with farming machines and new tractors, a horticultural marquee, a craft fayre selling pieces from local craft makers, and a home produce section to browse. "It's a really big day and a really diverse day," said Mrs Fenner.

"It's [the show's] got livestock, it's got horses, and there's a very big kennel club registered dog show where around 700 dogs compete.

"There's also a rabbit show, and you'll never see a rabbit so big in your life! They're fascinating to go and see."

A food court will also be available on the day and is managed by the team behind the weekly Cowbridge Farmer's Market. "The local farming community has a massive role in the organisation of the show," says Sarah. "Working behind the scenes, on the show, stewarding and volunteering – the show couldn't run without them is the honest answer.

"It really is a town meets country event and it's a chance for people to see things that they wouldn't usually see throughout the rest of the year."
