MONDAY'S announcement that pubs, restaurants and cafés must shut at 6pm and cannot serve alcohol provoked a range of reactions and dealt a huge blow to local hospitality businesses owners.

Restaurateurs spoke of "heavy hearts", being "mentally exhausted" and "gutted" by the news.

Here's what our local eateries are offering and how you can support them through this difficult time:

The Yard Pizzeria

Owner Paul Langford told Nub News he was "gutted" for his family and team.

Throughout the pandemic Paul has adapted the restaurant seating to accommodate for the changing restrictions but takings have drastically fallen.

As a result of Monday's announcement, The Yard will be closed from Saturday until further notice.

"This is not a decision we are taking lightly as we'd love to be getting pizza and our Italian food out to everyone but we need to safeguard the future of The Yard, so right now it's not viable for us to stay open in the days as we do primarily most of our trade in the evenings," read a social media post.

The Yard will be open until 6pm on Friday. After that time, takeaways will be available on Friday and Saturday night until 10pm.

On Saturday The Yard will open at 10am, serving brunch and coffee before changing to a takeaway service at 6pm.

Why not enjoy a delicious Italian meal from The Yard via takeaway at the end of the week?

The Bear Hotel, The Penny Farthing and Oscars

These three venues in Cowbridge are operated by The Town and Country Collective.

While The Bear and The Penny Farthing have reopened since the first lockdown, Oscars has remained closed.

The Bear is open from 12pm-10pm and serving alcohol until Thursday.

After that day, the opening hours will be 10am-6pm, with a festive lunch menu, afternoon tea and Sunday roasts on offer.

You can also stay at The Bear Hotel: residents can dine until 10pm and order alcohol as part of room service.

This weekend will see the launch of 'Oscars at Home', a takeaway service from The Town and Country Collective.

"We hope this shows everyone our determination to succeed. We are absolutely not ready to give up, so please don't give up on us," said staff at The Bear Hotel.

Although Gourmet Night at The Penny Farthing has been cancelled, you can still visit the restaurant for festive afternoon tea, available Monday-Friday from 2pm.

The Penny Farthing is also offering takeaway quiche and pavlova.

The quiche flavours are salmon and broccoli, brie and cranberry, and bacon and mushroom.

The pavlovas come in toffee and pecan, strawberry and raspberry, and hazelnut.

Telephone or email the restaurant to place an order. The last pick-up is by 3pm on Christmas Eve.

1 Town Hall Square

The freehouse described the new restrictions as "lockdown 3.0" and "déjà vu", but thanked patrons for their support.

Town Hall Square will be open from 11.30am-11pm until Thursday night. Grab a drink of the best cask ale, craft keg, real cider & wine from South Wales, the UK and beyond while you still can.

The Horse and Groom

Open from 1pm-10pm until the restrictions apply from Friday, when the pub will close at 6pm.

The Horse and Groom offers country pub-grub in a friendly environment.

The Horse and Groom is also offering takeaways between 6-9pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 12-3pm on Sunday.

From pub classics like fish and chips, hearty pies, and burgers to stone baked pizza, there's something for everyone.

Then on Sunday, why not have a takeaway Sunday roast delivered to your door?

Phone 01446 772253 to order.

Harry's

Harry's announced yesterday that it will have to temporarily close from 6pm on Friday.

Support the restaurant in the meantime by having coffee, served from 11am, lunch from midday or dinner from 6pm.
