The results of the by-election to choose a town councillor to represent the Llanblethian East ward have been announced.
Beverly Tonkin won the by-election, receiving 131 votes to Owen Edwards' 86.
Ms Tonkin won with 60% of the vote.
Both were independent candidates.
"I was delighted to win the seat for the Llanblethian East Ward of the Cowbridge with Llanblethian Council and would like to thank those who supported me and those who voted for me," said Ms Tonkin.
"I am an Independent as I feel that running a town council has nothing to do with political allegiances but is all about managing the area for the benefit of the people such as the smooth running of the leisure and amenities, encouraging a lively town centre etc. and also being a voice for any local concerns such as the development of the old cattle market.
"I want to work with the other Councillors in achieving this and perhaps bring some new ideas as well for consideration.
"I have a legal and business background and have been involved in several local voluntary groups and hope that these experiences will be of help in doing the best we can for Cowbridge and Llanblethian," she said.
The polling station opened yesterday morning and closed at 10pm last night.
As the successful candidate, Ms Tonkin will now join the 14 other councillors on the Town Council.
