The prettiest bitch, the waggiest tail and the pet that everyone wants to take home will be found at a Cowbridge event next month that will boost local charities.

Cowbridge Rotary Doggy Show will take place on the town's playing fields (entrance by the Old Cattle Market) on Sunday, 4 September.

It costs £5 to enter your canine companion into any one of 12 categories that you feel are perfect for your pooch – and you can enter as many categories as you feel appropriate. You can book a place via this link.

Each category has a local sponsor and the main sponsor for the top dog is Pritchard's Haulage.

The categories (and sponsors) are: Fluffiest dog (Specsavers), Best Cross Breed (Arthur John), Perfect Puppy - under one year (Syl;via Williams), Prettiest Bitch (Watts & Morgan Estate agents), The Dog the Judges want to take home (Harry's Bar), Handsomest Dog (Vedra), Best Dressed Dog (Horse and Groom), Best Veteran (Topstack), Sausage Catch (Forgae Farm Shop), Waggiest Tail (Into-It accountancy), Best Child Handler - Under 10 (HRT Estate agents) and Best Trick (Sam Smith Travel). All the category winners will then be considered for 'best in show' (Pritchard's Haulage).

As well as expressing the club's 'eternal gratitude' to all the sponsors, Malcolm Hallewell from the Rotary Club said: "There will be plenty to see and do and the club look forward to seeing all those wonderful cannines bringing their owners out for a walk on the day.

"All profits from the afternoon will go towards the numerous charitable causes the club work with such as supporting Sheltered Housing Schemes, Blood Bikes, Water and Sanitation Projects, Dementia Cowbridge, Music in Mind etc.

"There will also be a Rotary Cowbridge Information tent explaining some of the work the club gets involved with and supports to try and generate interest in new members and "Friends of Rotary."

Gates open at noon and admission is £1.
