Vale of Glamorgan Council will reintroduce unrestricted black bag collections for a three-week period at the end of the year to help households cope with Christmas waste.

Usually, residents are only allowed to leave two black bags of non-recyclable waste for collection every other week.

But, in order to help deal with the added waste created over the festive period, this will be relaxed from 26 December to 13 January.

Residents are still encouraged to recycle as much material as they can. Wrapping paper and other packaging can often be recycled or reused if this is not possible.

Cllr Mark Wilson, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Building and Highway Services, said: "We appreciate the extra waste produced over the Christmas season and want to make disposing of it as manageable as possible for residents.

"With this in mind, for a three-week period, there will be no limits to how much black bag waste a household can put out"However, we would encourage people to use this opportunity to only get rid of non-recyclable Christmas waste.

"The Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and is committed to Project Zero, its plan to become carbon neutral by 2030."Our recycling operation has grown significantly in the last few years, with our performance among the best in Wales.

"Maintaining and improving on those standards is vital as we bid to help tackle climate change and improve the natural environment."
