Producers of locally-sourced food and handcrafted goods will come together at the first Cowbridge Country Market of the year this Friday.

Baked treats, fresh vegetables, preserves, crafts such as knitwear and handmade jewellery, and flowers will all be available to browse and buy when the market returns to Lesser Hall.

Veronica Rose Morgan, the market's manager, told Nub News: "The market has been going for more than 50 years and we're excited to announce that Friday will be the first market of 2022."

Between January and February, the market closes and reopens again from March to December. "We close during that time because we're busy making our preserves," said Veronica. "We're busy making marmalade as it's the time of year where you can get several types of orange."

Although it's usually a quiet start, Cowbridge Country Market can get busy at certain times of the year. "It always takes a bit of time for word to get around and the first month does tend to be a bit quiet, but I've been doing my best in putting up posters and emailing friends for us to hopefully get a good start."

The market is also keen to attract new producers. "We would love to have some new producers, especially younger ones," said Veronica. A younger generation could also help with putting the market on Facebook and promoting it further.

Veronica added: "I think because we're older and don't do Facebook, it would be better to find a younger producer that could manage it for us."

Doors will open for the public at 09:00 and the market finishes at 11:30.
