A memorial match will be played at Cowbridge cricket ground tomorrow in honour of former captain and coach Jonathan Smart.

Jon was a beloved and integral part of Cowbridge Cricket Club; not only as a player but within the club's administration.

He died unexpectedly in June 2020, age 45. Tomorrow, Cowbridge Cricket Club will play an MCC side and open the new nets, funded in Jon's memory.

"He was a huge part of the club and was Cowbridge through and through," Matthew Smart, Jon's twin brother, told Nub News.

"It's a big day tomorrow. We're expecting to have 450 in the marquee on the ground, and the club will be open and we welcome anyone who wants to come along.

"Cowbridge has a strong side, which is a testament to Jon that players are travelling from afar."

There will also be a luncheon, raffle and auction in the afternoon, with live music later in the day.

"We've had some amazing auction prizes donated, and lots of high street shops have donated to our raffle," said Matthew.

"They remember Jon fondly and have donated well in his memory.

"We welcome people to come and support, and if they feel they'd like to make a donation upon entry, then that's great."
