The Vale of Glamorgan Council's Events Team are pleased to announce a revised program of events following Wales' move into Alert Level Zero.

The first of these events will be the Big Beach Build sandcastle competition at Whitmore Bay on August 23. Up to 200 teams will be invited to showcase their sandcastle-building skills as part of a Leave No Trace event. Castles may only be built from sand and will be washed away naturally by the tide.

The events program also includes the first ever Festival of Flowers, currently being hosted throughout August in the Vale's four town centres. Throughout Autumn, families will be able to enjoy the Pumpkin Fest at Porthkerry Country Park and a Town Centres spooky trail and the Green Guy Project on Bonfire Night.

The program will continue into the Winter and Spring with The Reindeer Splash and Dash, Town Centre Elf Trail and Santa's Post Office, drawing to a close with the Golden Egg treasure hunt at Easter.

The team are also working with partners to establish a program of events at Cosmeston Medieval Village.

Lis Burnett, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, said

"This year, our events programme has been designed to provide enjoyable family events in line with Welsh Government Covid-19 regulations. It's a move away from the large crowd gathering events of previous years, with the aim to support businesses that have been hard hit by Covid.

"As Wales moves into Alert Level Zero, we still have a responsibility to provide events that adhere to these guidelines, but the programme is equally as fun and entertaining for families living in and visiting the Vale. We can't wait to see the results of our sandcastle making competition later this month."

Sarah Jones, Vale of Glamorgan Council Events Officer, added: "We are really excited by the events programme this year, and we hope visitors and residents of the Vale will enjoy the variety we have on offer.

"They are a great way to enjoy your time with family and friends while becoming reacquainted with some great destinations across the Vale."
