Cowbridge residents who have not yet had their first Covid-19 vaccine can now sign up to a 'reserve list' to attend an appointment at short notice.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has published a form, on which residents can enter their details to be called for a vaccine.

The Health Board said:

"If you would like to receive the first dose of your COVID-19 vaccination, we now have a reserve form on our website. You can register your details and we will contact you if we have any appointments available.

"Please note you would need to be able to attend a vaccination centre at short notice.

"Any data entered will be used to determine whether you qualify to receive your COVID-19 vaccination at this time.

"If an appointment is booked, then the demographics you submit will be used to book your appointment."

The first pharmacy under Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan's health board began administering Covid vaccines yesterday.

At Tesco Pharmacy, on Western Avenue, Cardiff, cohorts nine and 10 will receive their inoculations.

This includes all those aged 50 years old or over, and those aged between 40 and 49.

Pharmacist Adam Young explained the process of being vaccinated at the pharmacy:

"When you receive your appointment letter, you will come to the store for that appointment," he said.

"One of our pharmacists will greet you and bring you into the consultation room, where we will administer your vaccination."

In response to concerns over a possible link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and the risk of blood clots for those under 30, CAVUHB referred to advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.

"Given the very low numbers of events reported overall, there is currently a high level of uncertainty in estimates of the incidence of this extremely rare adverse event by age group," said the JCVI.

"There are some adults under 30 without underlying health conditions who are in phase 1, who were prioritised due to an increased risk of exposure and/or to reduce the risk of passing the infection on to vulnerable individuals.

"This includes health and social care workers, unpaid carers and household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals. Acting on a precautionary basis, if these persons are still unvaccinated, it is preferable for them to be offered an alternative COVID-19 vaccine, if available.

"JCVI is currently finalising its advice on phase 2 of the programme, particularly for healthy people under 30 years of age, and this will be published in due course."

Pharmacist at Tesco Western Avenue Andrew Li urged people to attend their bookings: "The vaccine we believe is extremely safe, please do attend your bookings."
