Covid booster jabs will be delivered to care homes in Penarth/Cowbridge from next Monday [20 September], Cardiff and the Vale University Health Board has announced.
The booster vaccinations will be delivered through the mobile vaccination team.
The health board will also contact front line staff to receive a booster appointment at a Mass Vaccination Centre, in the order they received their first two jabs.
"People aged 80 and over will be able to receive their booster vaccination closer to home from a GP led centre or Community Pharmacy in their area," said a spokesperson for CAVUHB.
"There is no need to contact the GP Practice or the Health Board at this stage as everyone eligible will be contacted directly as we move through the programme.
"We will also be inviting further cohorts, including people aged 50-79 and adults of any age with an underlying health conditions, carers and household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals, to be vaccinated at one of our MVCs in due course.
"We will be contacting all individuals who are eligible for a booster directly, so please wait to be contacted.
"The JCVI advises a preference for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for the booster programme, regardless of which vaccine brand someone received for their primary doses. This follows data from the COV-BOOST trial that indicates the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is well tolerated as a third dose and provides a strong booster response.
"Alternatively, a half dose of the Moderna vaccine may be offered. Where mRNA vaccines cannot be offered, for example due to allergies, the AstraZeneca vaccine may be considered for those who received it previously.
"In Cardiff and Vale we will be using the Pfizer-BioNTech predominantly for booster vaccinations."
The entire adult population in the Vale has been offered a vaccine appointment and the health board is "working through the details" of offering vaccinations to those aged 12-15, following the recent JCVI recommendation.
