LOCAL businesses have donated prizes for the winners of the Cantemus Chamber Choir QRistmas carol trail.

In a creative workaround of the Coronavirus singing ban, posters have been displayed in 20 local businesses with QR codes, which take the user to a recording of a carol from Cantemus' album 'Nativity'.

Seven songs have been hidden around town. Participants can visit the Cantemus Choir website to enter the title of each carol and enter into a prize draw.

The winners will be drawn on Christmas Eve. There are 16 prizes to be won, which have been donated by Cowbridge businesses:

  • A cut and finish from Fitch and Ramous
  • A scarf and glove set from Visage
  • A £50 voucher from E91
  • A £25 voucher from Amanda Jones Jewellery
  • Designer single vision glasses or sunglasses from

Specsavers

  • A cashmere scarf from No 39 of Cowbridge
  • A hamper from Bar 44
  • A pair of emu slippers from Jon Ian
  • A £30 Ti Sento voucher from JRC Jewellers
  • A super soft poncho from WG Davies
  • A jumper and scarf from Cocoplumb
  • A gift set from Sylvia Williams
  • An Elemis winter special gift voucher from Beauty
Within
  • A £50 voucher from Colours
  • A £50 pair of Robell trousers from Kathy Gittins

In association with the Cowbridge Chamber of Trade and local retailers, the choir has organised QRristmas carol trail around town.

The choir hopes this will "help to bring some of the magic of carol-singing back to our high streets this year".

Cantemus Choir member Rebecca Rickard said: "The idea is that you walk around town, scan the codes and listen to the carols and then try and name them all to be entered into the prize draw.

"We have a charity concert every year that can't go ahead as normal, but we have a good relationship with T Hafan.

"We wanted to raise the profile of the charity and bring some Christmas cheer to the town."

Cantemus Choir also hopes that participants will donate to Ty Hafan via its JustGiving page .

Copies of the 'Nativity' CD will also be available to buy at the Bear Hotel and other locations in Cowbridge.

The CD was recorded in January 2015 at St Augustine's Church in Penarth and released later that year.
