A peacock has been spotted roaming the Cowbridge area since Thursday.

Byron Moorcroft is the owner of the peacock, which is named Percy. He said Percy has free roam of his grounds.

"I've had Percy since the start of the year," Byron told Nub News.

"He's not caged and peacocks are roaming birds. He comes back and forth. He's been home and gone out again."

David Garwood saw Percy in The Herberts on Friday evening.

"I was driving and was so stunned to see a peacock I'm just glad I stayed on the road!" he said.

"It'll be interesting to see how many other people say they've seen it too!"

Percy was also spotted just a short distance away in St Mary Church, where there was some concern about drivers potentially hitting him.

The speed limit through the village is 30mph, but residents took to social media to warn drivers to preemptively slow down.

Byron asked that drivers take care near Percy.

"Please don't run him over. He's fine and knows where his home is," he said.

"I'd say he's out wondering looking for a new lover!"
